The Glory of the Morning

Ipomoea nil 'Double Blue Picotee'
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day

-Eleanor Farjeon

Just a note - Though this is a double, I've rarely had double blooms. They appear randomly along the vine right along with the singles. Still, I love the color and form. Morning glories are amazing, with that brightly lit center, which only makes their colors seem more vivid. It always looks to me like they have an LED light down in there!

Beautiful picture and a good sense of humor from the morning glory!
Thanks for sharing.

Love the photo of your morning glory. I had some blue ones this year and must get out there and gather some seeds.

Enjoyed my visit.

What a gorgeous flower! Now, I'll have to pull up Cat Stevens on my Ipod and listen to the song, one of my favorites!

Morning glories are always magical to me too. I've been enchanted by them since I was a kid. And somehow the camera never quite catches that special light they have from inside do it? Cindy at Rosehaven Cottage

The melody just came....when I read your post! It is a lovely song that I still now like to sing....and it suits so well with the beautiful picture!

A Beautiful bloom! I grew this last year and finally got a couple of blooms very late in the season, but I don't remember them being as pretty as yours. :-)
Lovely poem, as well. Eleanor Farjeon originally wrote it for a hymnbook entitled "Songs of Praise" and later also included it in a published collection of her poems. It is indeed a song of praise to God!

Thanks Kylee for a pic of a gorgeous flower and the, for me, very special words. They were sung on the funeral of my very dear friend Ella who passed away far too early at only 52. She so loved this song that everytime I hear it or read the words, I think of her.

Beautiful Morning Glory, Kylee!

I used to love when Cat Stevens sang those lyrics you posted! WAAYYYY back in the 60s....

Now Lynda, let's not make us any older than we need to be! Morning Has Broken hit number one in 1972.

It's one of my very favorite songs and I used to be able to play it by heart on the piano, but that was many years ago, too. LOL.

This flower doesn't have to be double to be perfect, does it--neither does the song, all these many years later. Thanks for taking us on a trip down memory lane.
