Where Did All the Zucchini Go?

August 8th was Sneak Some Zucchini onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day. I couldn't wait. We grew zucchini this year, after a couple years' absence from our gardens, but for all the blooms we got, the bees and butterflies must have passed them over for pollination. No zucchini forthwith.

The illustrious zucchini holiday came and went and our porch was bare. All except for some tumbleweeds of Boo's black fluffy fur and a couple of spent flowers from the Passiflora. No zucchini on our porch. Okay, so only one of our five neighbors even has a garden and they didn't grow zucchini. Still, I left my car window open at church and no one threw any in there either.

I don't care for banana bread. Overly ripe bananas make the inside of my mouth hurt. (So do walnuts.) But I love love love zucchini bread and looked forward to having some of that zucchini that everyone is always pushing on me so I could make a few loaves and freeze some up for winter. I tried to plan ahead by planting my own, but the best laid plans obviously don't always work out.

Sooooo...sigh...I guess I shall go to the grocery store and do something I don't think I've ever done before in my life -
buy a zucchini.

There's a first time for everything.

oh, it really does seem to be feast or famine with zucchini, doesnt' it? It is a feast year, here, sorry I can't send you some via the internet. I do have a week's worth of recipes on my website, though. I've made them all, but given a lot away, too.

No one left any on our porch either, but we did sneak some to our neighbors. It happened to be zucchini we picked up for free at our bee supply place (a small Amish farm).

I've been making zucchini bread like crazy - MMMMMM. Too bad we have too much shade and our zucchini plants don't produce as much as I'd like. They're always cheap at the farmer's market though, I don't mind paying .50 each for them.

I love zucchini bread, but then I love banana bread too....minus the nuts, walnuts or whatever- they just don't belong in banana bread. Raisins in zucchini...yum!!!

Muum ~ I saw you had some great recipes! I think I'm going to try the cake one with carrots. We've got a bunch of those from the garden! Still need zucchini though...

Chiot's Run ~ Well yeah, it's not like they cost much. It's just that usually you can't give 'em away fast enough - just like kittens! LOL

Janet ~ I love raisins, so absolutely they would be good in zucchini bread!

It's the same thing here. I've got ONE zucchini this year from our two plants! They are blooming but that's it.

I'm with you, who ever heard of buying zucchini?!! My plants did ok to begin with, then went into bloom well, but no zucchinis to show for it, then a few zucchinis, and more neutered blooms!!! Same thing with my pumpkins. I'm wondering if there is a fungus out in my garden!!!

I'm chuckling that you don't like banana bread... you should have told me. LOL

My zucchini did so well this year that I made zucchini bread for the first time ever. I also made some zucchini fritters that were really good... then gave lots of zukes away, too.

Maybe next year for you... veggie gardens are like that... last year my zukes got worms really early and we didn't have so great a harvest. We just keep trying don't we?
