The 2010 Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show + FREE TICKETS!

BREAKING NEWS! The Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show has graciously provided two free tickets to the show! If you'd like to be in the drawing for the tickets, just let me know in your comment to this post. I'll draw a winner on Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. EST.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know spring is on the way, because my garden show calendar is filling up.  I love this.  Seeing home and garden shows and flower shows taking up space on my schedule means another fun-filled and exciting garden year is about to begin!
After a winter where all I could do was dream about tulips and daffodils, now I will see them in displays, knowing it's only a matter of weeks before they'll be pushing their way through the soil in my own gardens.
Our local TV and radio stations are full of ads for the Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show, which begins next week (February 25-28).  This show is always the first in our area and officially kicks off the gardening season for me.  Others soon follow and before you know it, the red-winged blackbirds are singing and spring has arrived.
The Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show is in its 37th year and will feature over 650 exhibitors in what is the largest show of its kind in the tri-state area (Indiana/Ohio/Michigan).  Held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum (map and directions), you can buy tickets in one of two ways:
  • Online, where you'll get a discount on the cost of your ticket as well as a free one-year subscription to Better Homes and Gardens magazine (a $6 value).  You'll pay for and print out your admission tickets before you go. ($7.50 for ages 16 and older; seniors are $6.50; ages 15 and under are free with a paid adult admission)
  • At the door, where admission costs $10.  A $3 discount coupon can be printed here.
Hours for the show are:
FEBRUARY 25- 28, 2010
THURSDAY & FRIDAY
11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
SATURDAY
10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
SUNDAY
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Thursday and Friday only, you can get another $1 off the admission in addition to using the $3 coupon by bringing a canned food item for donation to the Community Harvest Food Bank.
If you're a member of the American Horticultural Society, you'll enjoy free admission by showing your membership card at the door, due to their participation in the Reciprocal Admissions Program.
 Don Engebretson, a.k.a. The Renegade Gardener, will be making three presentations at the show:
~ Crafting Cool & Creative Containers
~ Yes You Can! Landscape Design for Homeowners
~ Design Secrets to a Beautiful Yard & Garden
In the Garden Gallery, Aesthetic Plant Specialists and the Northern Indiana Flower Growers Association will be demonstrating how to grow and care for your vegetable gardens. They will be giving away live vegetable plants to kids while supplies last, courtesy of Burpee Home Gardens.
 The Master Gardeners' Stage will be presenting seminars throughout the show.  A schedule of their presentations can be found here.
 There will also be a $50,000 Untimate Home Makeover Giveaway on Sunday for those that sign up to win during the show.
I i am new here. I love garden shows but have not visited any in the temperate climes, only here in the tropics. We have a different set of plants of course, i am inviting you to browse on some of ours in my site. I posted some landscaping corners, and orchids, bromeliads in my older posts. I assure you they are very colorful, tho of course my photos are not as professional. thank you.
This sounds like a great show, Kylee! I'm getting excited, too, as my calendar fills up. And if I had the time, I could go to even more events--now that my MG class has started, I'm getting e-mails all the time about different workshops and events. I saw in your comment on my post that you are planning to attend the Chicago Show as well. Beckie and I are planning to go on Monday, March 8. Wish I could meet up with you! But I have two MG classes that week, so Monday is the only day I can go. I'm excited about it; we went for the first time last year and just loved it!
I participated in the GBBC this past weekend, too, and it was interesting to see the different birds you spotted. Only one house finch here, but I did have quite a few cardinals. I haven't seen a robin all winter, though--how exciting!
