Got Snow? Win a Snow Thrower!

We've had some snow here at Our Little Acre already this season, even though winter doesn't technically arrive until Wednesday morning. It hasn't been anything that we needed to shovel by any means, but it's only a matter of time before we get a snowfall that requires a method of removal.

9 December 2011

The easiest way for us to take care of snowdrifts in the driveway and walkways is to use our Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 XP Snow Thrower we received from Troy-Bilt last winter for testing and review. You can read our review here, complete with video.

January 2011

If you have a winter snow issue, you just might want to enter this giveaway, because the nice people at Troy-Bilt are allowing me to give away a snow thrower again this year!! And the one they're providing for the giveaway is the very one we tested and have, the Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 XP. It really is a great snow thrower.

By leaving a comment on this blog post and entering your information in the Rafflecopter form, that gives you two entries into the giveaway. Just tell me what you would suggest as a Christmas gift for a 97-year-old woman in assisted living. (Hey, I'm desperate!)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

The giveaway ends on Monday night at midnight EST on December 26th. (That just happens to be my grandma's birthday too, when she will be 97!) Good luck in the giveaway!

UPDATE! Congratulations to Jim Monroe, winner of the Troy-Bilt Snow Thrower!

My grandma was always thrilled with the simplicity of flowers--anything that reminded her she wasn't forgotten. Sigh.

I use a snow blade on the front of my old Wheel Horse riding mower. That snow thrower would be nice to have, but I can't sit on it. ;~)

What to give a grandmother....

Certificates made by you for things like a lunch out, a day at her favorite museum, a drive in the country to see spring flowers or autumn leaves, a container of her favorite cookies, etc.

A subscription to a magazine she would enjoy.

A Kindle with books already loaded.

I never know what to get grandma, the gift of your time seems to be best. A morning out for breakfast is her favorite

Okay! Here's the comment I need to leave! ;-) Thank you for facilitating this give-away.
Grandmas in need of a gift? YOU if you live nearby, books (large print?) or magazine subscription (such as Birds & Blooms, etc.), potted bulbs that will grow and flower later... YOU have a wonderful imagination. Coupled with all the suggestions you've already received, your Grandma will be truly blessed!! :-)

Time spent with loved ones I think is the best gift.

I'd give your Grandma a digital picture frame with some of your beautiful photos to look at.

You have no idea how much I need a snow blower! We have had our share of "getting stuck in the driveway" the last few winters.
My aunt in the nursing home likes warm fuzzy socks and blankets. She even likes stuffed animals.

The snowblower looks awesome, would love to win.
A suggestion for your grandma, maybe a favorite or unusual plant that she could grow and care for at her home. An hour a week to spend with her (or whatever time works for you) recording her life story so that it can be passed down to future generations.

What a machine!! We don't get that much snow in The Netherlands. Occasionaly a few cm.

Hi Kylee, Interesting post, but the nearest we get to snow round here is cotton wool. That's a good arrangement you've got with troy-bilt. cheers, catmint

What a great snow-blower. Troy bilt is the best. As for the Christmas Gift, I would suggest that you an Audio Book. I know that I Love to be "read" to. I have to admit that the comments from the others are all great and I would go for any of them as well as the AUDIO BOOKS! Also, I happen to know that Grandma would love for me to win this prize. She understands what it is like to live in the country with the west wind and the north/south driveway! I don't know your Grandma, but I am confident she would want this for me! Love ya, Merry Christmas.

I would LOVE a snowblower; sure beats shoveling which is what I have to do when we do get snow.
Gifts for 97 yr. young; small easy-to-care-for plant, books of stamps & blank cards, sm. box of really good candy.

Do we have snow!? Sadly, yes. In terms of a gift, I'm a big fan of pashminas or a warm, soft blanket or wrap. I'm always chilly and I expect when I'm in my 90s I'll be frozen all the time!

snow is not here yet! but it will arrive I am sure!

As for the 97 year old person! Fresh baked cookies for starters... Bring a cup of hot tea with you and pour into a china cup! A basket with some nice lotion, some chap stick or Vitamin E balm, those small plastic eggs that you shake and make music is fun, some warm socks, the gloves with the fingers open are good, Puffs, some crayons and coloring book would be fun to do while visiting!

It (snow) is not here yet!

Fresh baked cookies, a cup of hot tea, Puffs, Vitamin E balm, fingerless gloves, a shaker egg to make music, crayons and a coloring book, your laughter and bring something to read to her - a poem or verses from the Bible - she will like that!

I would get her some comfortable sweats pants and sweat shirts.

Merry Christmas Kylee!

Bless your dear 97 year old shut in with loads of hugs and bushels of love, visit her as much as you can and listen to her stories, love is really all she wants these days, but make sure you leave in time for her to rest, speaking of rest, I would be so happy to win the Troy-Bilt Snow Thrower. I'm getting too old myself to keep shovling this Ohio snow and could use the rest I would get from this blessing to maybe even plow my neighbors drive and walks! God bless you and Merry Christmas!

I would say the gift of time is always so appreciated, and a hug - wish I had given my grandmother more hugs. When people get older they receive less physical contact and they miss it. So my vote is for hugs & company - make her a dinner and hang out with her lots!

Connie B said...

Take your grandmother out for some brunches. Spend all the time you can with her. I miss my grandparents still even after all these years. And would love to have a snow blower!! :)

jeannine said...

I would have to agree that the best gift that could be given would be a nice long visit. Maybe bring some candy or cookies and spend the day!

Jen said...

If your grandmother reads, I would get her a Kindle with 3g. That way you could send her books that she would enjoy and she could also change the font size so she can read comfortably.

Lois said...

Flowers and vists! They mean so much to anyone, and visit often. Lois
p.s. I love your "Our Little Acre' newsletter. Gardening has always been so important in my life, and your comments etc bring back many memories of plants, trees, or shrubs we have grown. Thank you and Merry Christmas

Large print books- especially word searches make great gifts for the elderly.

Oh this snow thrower would be awesome here in the mountains of Maryland. We don't get as many days of snow as some but when we get it we get dumped on!
We got my grandmother a photo book with recent pictures of everyone in the family including their names. Also, puzzles, Sudoku, and a amaryllis are all great gifts.

Jon R said...

This looks like a great snow thrower - would like to use it on some white stuff around here! The gift: a personalized calendar with family photos, or a "ZZ" Plant (Zamioculcas) which requires very little care. It even survives some neglect!

If it were me, I would want a bit of Christmas in my room -- some alive and decorative: a small miniature tree with simple decorations (Pro Flowers carries them!) or a real wreath (L.L. Bean has these). We got Kerwin's mom the wreath. She will be 97 in Feb. and she liked it! She lives at home with his sister. Paper doll

I would go with flowers. My grandma is in a nursing home and flowers always cheer up her room.

I'd make a homemade "coupon" book filled with coupons redeemable for errands, a lunch date, laundry etc. Most elderly don't like to ask for help so this helps some.

My suggestion for grandma is your time. Take her to lunch or if you can't take her, bring lunch there and sit and chat and eat with her.
The snowthrower looks great. Chicago suburbs haven't had any snow yet but I know it's coming!

I would make a gift basket filled with a warm lap blanket, non slip socks, books , puzzles, favorite snacks and some personal items like powder, soap and perfume

The gift of your visits is probably most special and meaningful to your grandma, Kylee. Perhaps you could record yourself reading a special story or poem and put it on a dvd for her to watch/listen to? Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I gave my 90-year old mother a cookbook of all of her wonderful recipes with family photos of her and her 7 kids through the years. I gave it out as gifts to my siblings, too. It's so easy to do online and my mother loved it.
We're moving from Virginia to New Hampshire in two days and we're unprepared for snowy winters. How we'd love a snow blower! Brrrrr!

Wow- to win this would be awesome! As for a gift idea for an elderly woman in her 90's, pictures, pictures, pictures. Calendar, cards, mug, anything with pics of great grandkids etc is a winner!

The Troy-Bilt Storm 3090 XP Snow Thrower would be very helpful for the snow storms we get in the Midwest. My aching back thanks you in advance.
For your grandmother's birthday, I suggest a small hand-held transistor radio. When I gave that radio to my mother who was living in the nursing home, I taped the dial changer so she would hear her favorite channel and not have to worry about it being turned to another channel. All she had to do was turn it on or off. HB to Grandma. From, PhilipMSr
