Lunch Date!

It's another rainy day here in Northwest Ohio.  I was hoping to spend some time in the garden, but the rain has been falling off and on all day, after starting out with fog heavy enough to cause a delayed start to the local high school's day.

I'm happy to see the bluebirds have returned!

But that doesn't make for a boring day!  The past week has brought a real flurry of bird activity, with the sighting of the bluebirds in the back yard near the nesting boxes.  The feeders have been a hub of activity too, and many of ours are placed so we can watch from the comfort of the couch.

Hummingbirds were busy at the feeder all day

This morning I saw the first hummingbird sipping at the window feeder.  I'd seen my first hummingbird of the season early last evening, as it buzzed the flower boxes on the front porch, so I knew they would find the feeder soon.

Then, as I sat here at the computer, completing some writing assignments, a flash of red caught my eye.  I looked over and caught Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal sharing a mid-day meal at the platform feeder.

I think this photo of them just begs for a caption, don't you?

UPDATE (5.13.10): The Baltimore Orioles have returned to the old oak tree, just as they've done every year for ... yeah ... that long. :-)

It is always wonderful to see the Bluebirds return. A caption would be good Kylee, like "I told you not to talk while your eating" LOL!

Lona ~ We never really had bluebirds until last year, that we noticed anyway!

Great caption! Thank you for that...I was hoping to get some good ones from my very clever readers! :-)

I checked the hummingbird migraton map a few days ago and saw that they had reached Indiana. I immediately put up the feeder, but so far I haven't seen them. Hopefully soon!

The female cardinal looks likes she is giving him "a what for". Growing up in the south I always heard that expression, this is my first time to ever "write" it and it looks funny.

I haven't seen blue birds this year. Lucky you!

Heather ~ That's a good one!

Robin ~ I checked the map a few weeks ago and they'd been spotted as far north as Michigan even then, but this is the first I've seen any.

I know that expression! So I'm not sure it's a southern one, but I like it no matter where it comes from! And you're right, she does look like she's doing that!

I just thought of another caption (being a dental hygienist and all...): "You didn't brush your teeth yet this morning, did you?"

I'm new to your blog and lovin' it! I'm in the Miami Valley, SW Ohio and haven't seen any hummingbirds yet either. My feeder has been out for weeks!
