When we had Simba, our dog, she used to love to eat cicadas. It didn't matter if they were alive or dead, she just loved the crunchy snacks. Lily, the youngest member of our kitty family, seems to have an appetite for insects as well. She catches moths and butterflies on a regular basis and eats them.
This morning, she caught a cicada, but I'm not sure she likes it when her food protests audibly.
I died laughing at this video. I can remember one of my dogs getting one in its mouth and it buzzed and what a look on his face...right before he chomped it.
LOL! I think she liked playing around with it. She did look a little bored with the cicada's noisy attitude.I noticed Lily nonchalantly scratching in between before back to the pawing again. LOL! I use to have a dog that ate them too. I could not believe it. It ate so many one year when the seventeen year ones were out that he got sick. I thought the silly dog was going to die from eating so many.
Living and gardening in NW Ohio with my husband, ten cats, and six chickens, I was bitten by the gardening bug in 2005. It soon became my passion. Writing was next (2007) and the two joined forces. Now I write for a local newspaper, two regional gardening magazines, and am the book review editor for Horticulture magazine.

That Lily is a beauty if a bit bored with the bug. Good job on the video.
