There's an Ostrich in the Garden!

With the warmer temperatures, things are really popping out all over the garden! This Ostrich Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris), which reminded me of a lady dressed all in frills and begging for a bouquet of False Forget-Me-Nots (Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost'), was strutting her stuff. It's prom season here, and Miss Fern Fiddlehead is ready for her date:

Her friends are here to see her off and chatter among themselves about how beautiful she looks ...

This fern grows very large! And I'm happy to say that it has spread a bit this year, after planting it for the first time last year. They aren't in very good soil either. Heavy clay. UGH. But this fern doesn't seem to mind that at all! :-)

Aren't they fascinating! I love how you characterized them...gave them some glamour! And, I think you're right...they are gals...like Lady Ferns, etc.!

Miss Fern Fiddlehead LOL, my she looks pretty though! I love ferns. In the botanical garden in Leiden they have so many of them. Every time I went there, I spend at least half an hour amongst the ferns.
