Buffy has warmed up to us quite nicely and while some of the other cats aren't quite sure whether he belongs here, they'll get over it. I mentioned that there had been another stray hanging around looking for food - a skinny, skittish black one - and that we hadn't seen it in a few days.
He/She was back today. I looked out the kitchen window and there it was, lounging under the Japanese Maple. I tapped on the window and it looked at me, but remained at rest. Buffy came to check it out, decided it wasn't worth much of his time and moved on.
It doesn't look all that skinny in this picture because cats sleep fat, you know, but take my word for it. There isn't much meat on those bones. The fur around its neck is coming out in clumps now, which may be due to some run-ins with some of the other cats, or maybe it's due to a health issue. In any case, its fate is still up in the air as long as it won't let us get close.
If people would just take care of their animals, we wouldn't have such things happening. While we have taken in needy cats for the last four years, we really only wanted one inside and one outside cat. Now we have nine altogether.
Maybe ten.

I can see how skinny that poor little thing is. :( And I can see where the tufts of hair are missing around the neck. We never planned to have more than 2 cats either. But, like you said, thanks to irresponsible people we now have 8. If I'd kept every kitty I'd nursed we'd have way more than that. Just makes me crazy.
Keep us posted on this little skinny he/she.
Hugs,
Cindy
I agree 100% about people taking care of their animals. Although I am glad that you are taking care of the ones that find you, it's way more than you would have chosen yourself. (And I admire you for that.)
Who is the kitty behind the skinny one? It seems as though they have made friends...
Kylee .. wow ! .. I have to come back and read much more on your blog ! .. I am a cat fanatic too .. well our family is .. so my heart goes out to "skinny black cat" it kills me inside that some people think of animals as disposable entertainment .. but some times they are just run aways or lost ? .. this little guy feels at home by your place even if he/she is skittish . You have been so kind to try and take care of all your little furry souls and more ?
The cicada ? killers ... HUGE WOW ! .. very scary insects .. I would run screaming from them ! LOL
Thanks for dropping by my blog and letting me know you have a bamboo to ! : )
Poor skinny kitty.
Cindy ~ I actually got within 10 feet of him/her today and it meowed at me. A pitiful meow, like "Help me..." Breaks my heart!
Kim ~ LOL! That cat behind Blackie is one my mom got me a couple of years ago. He goes inside for the winter and then takes his usual spot under the Japanese Maple for spring, summer, and fall. Yes, he's a very laid back cat. ;-)
gardenjoy4me ~ It's really hard for us not to take all the strays in, but of course, that's not possible, so we help those we can. I can't tell yet whether this one was owned by someone previously. I'm guessing probably not, because it looks young and is so very shy.
I've enjoyed your blog and want to read more of yours, too. Please do come back and visit often! :-)
Lisa ~ I know! I feel so sorry for it!
You are so right Kylee, if only people would look after their pets properly a lot of sorrow and misery would be gone from our world.
I can see that Buffy is very thin, poor thing. As you know there's another little stray kitty in my life too but fortunately Jeeves isn't so very thin anymore.
